Public Benefit Statement
Lifestyle Medicine Jersey seeks to improve health and wellbeing through accessible, evidence-based lifestyle medicine education, support and community programmes.
The charity's activities focus on prevention, self-management and behaviour change to help reduce the impact of chronic disease and poor mental wellbeing within the community. Programmes support people to improve areas known to significantly influence health outcomes, including nutrition, physical activity, sleep, mental wellbeing, social connection and reduction of harmful substances and behaviours.
The charity is committed to making lifestyle medicine support accessible to all members of the community, regardless of background or financial circumstances, through free or low-cost programmes, education and community initiatives.
Lifestyle Medicine Jersey works collaboratively with healthcare professionals, charities, community organisations and public health partners to support healthier communities, reduce health inequalities, improve health literacy and encourage long-term healthy lifestyles. In doing so, the charity aims to improve quality of life, increase wellbeing and contribute over time to reducing the burden of preventable chronic disease on individuals, families and health services in Jersey.
Main Activities
The objects of the Company are:
(a) To raise awareness of the principles and practice of lifestyle medicine in Jersey as a means of preventing, treating and often reversing chronic disease. As defined by the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine, lifestyle medicine is evidence-based clinical care that supports behaviour change through person-centred techniques to improve mental wellbeing, social connection, healthy eating, physical activity, sleep and minimisation of harmful substances and behaviours;
(b) To deliver evidence-based lifestyle medicine group programmes to educate patients about self-management, behaviour change and lifestyle medicine interventions; and
(c) To work towards creating a healthier community, where people are empowered to make lifestyle choices to improve their current and future health, and thus over time reducing the burden on the health care system.
Delivery Of Activities
Lifestyle Medicine Jersey delivers its activities through a combination of community-based group programmes, online education, practical wellbeing activities and partnership working across the island.
Programmes are delivered regularly throughout the year in accessible community venues and online to improve reach and inclusion.
In 2025, the organisation delivered 10 group lifestyle medicine programmes across Jersey, including both in-person and online programmes. Most courses run over 6–8 weeks and combine evidence-based health education with practical support such as group coaching, healthy cooking sessions, walks and peer support activities.
The organisation is expanding its healthy ageing, metabolic health and mental wellbeing programmes, including courses developed in partnership with community and health organisations. Subject to funding, Lifestyle Medicine Jersey also aims to offer some free or reduced-cost one-to-one support for individuals who may require more personalised intervention or for whom a group setting may not be suitable.
Lifestyle Medicine Jersey intends to work collaboratively wherever possible. The organisation already works alongside healthcare professionals, charities, community groups and public health partners, including collaborations linked to physical activity (Jersey Sport - Move More Walks), mental wellbeing (Jersey Recovery Hub) and social connection. Partnership working is central to the organisations approach, helping to ensure services are accessible, evidence-based and responsive to local community needs.
